Greetings from the Chair

Dear Alumni and Friends of the Italian Department:

As I enter the third year of my term as Chair of the Italian Department, I am delighted to share news and updates from current and former colleagues and students.

We continue to grow as a department. Following our 2013 hire of an early modern Mediterraneanist, Assistant Professor Pier Mattia Tommasino, in 2014 we conducted a successful search that resulted in the hire of a specialist in the Mediterranean post-1700. Assistant Professor Konstantina Zanou joined us in September of this year after a year-long fellowship at the Paris Institute for Advanced Studies. These new hires expand our course offerings in exciting ways, adding a global perspective to our full coverage of medieval, Renaissance and modern literature and culture.
