Italian Graduate Student Association

The goal of the Italian Graduate Student Association (IGSA) is to support and further the interests of graduate students in the Department of Italian at Columbia University through advocacy and community building. The IGSA’s Co-Chairs coordinate all IGSA activities, lead monthly meetings, and are the primary student liaisons between graduate students and the Chair of the Department, the Director of Graduate Studies, and the faculty in general. IGSA holds regular constituent meetings, organizes events, reviews and acts upon graduate student concerns and suggestions, and oversees all other association matters. All current graduate students of the Columbia University Italian Department (including MA and PhD students) are considered members of the Italian Graduate Student Association.

The Italian Graduate Student Association organizes workshops on topics that commonly affect graduate students. Current students are encouraged to contact the IGSA representatives to suggest initiatives or volunteer to organize an upcoming session. Initiatives include: Caffè e Conversazione, Serata al Cinema, and professional and pedagogical development workshops.

Official announcements from the IGSA are disseminated via our university email list. All students are automatically enrolled in the list when they enter the graduate program. Students can send messages to the list only from their Columbia email accounts. Further questions about the list should be directed to the IGSA’s Co-Chairs.
