Friday, November 12, 2021

4pm-7pm Italy time (10am-1pm NYC time)

The Department of Italian is pleased to announce the online mini-symposium World Epics in Puppet Theater: Italy, India, Iran, Japan organized by  Prof. Jo Ann Cavallo, Chair of the Department of Italian. The World Epics in Puppet Theater: Italy, India, Iran, Japan project is part of the Humanities War and Peace Initiative, through the Division of Humanities in the Arts & Sciences at Columbia University.

The mini-symposium is being held within this year’s Festival di Morgana organized annually by the Museo Internazionale delle Marionette "Antonio Pasqualino" in Palermo. Five eminent scholars will explore the theme of exile in puppet theater adaptations of episodes from the Indian Ramayana, Japanese Tales of the Heike, Iranian Shahnameh, and Italian chivalric epics. The event will be livestreamed and the video will remain available for a period of time on the Museum’s youtube channel and Facebook page.
