Christina Lopez

Christina Lopez is a lecturer in the Department of Italian.  She holds a PhD in Italian and Comparative Literature and Society from Columbia University (2021).   Her research seeks to historicize the works of Dante and Boccaccio, focusing especially on how these authors treat social institutions, gender and sexuality, and ethics in their texts.  Her current book project examines the questioni d’amore, attending in particular to how Boccaccio uses them to critique sociolegal issues of the period.  Christina has published and lectured on various topics, including the censorship of the Decameron during the RenaissanceDante’s treatment of widows in the Divine Comedy, the rhetorical function of incompletion in the Decameron, and conception of virtue in the works of Dante and Boccaccio.
