The Department offers Italian placement exams at the beginning of each semester, generally during the week before classes start. Dates will be prominently posted on the website. One does not need to register for the scheduled exam, however, students who wish to take a Italian placement exam at a date other than the ones scheduled should send an email with the date and time the student proposes to take the test. The placement test requires no more than two hours to complete.
The Italian reading proficiency exam is also offered at the beginning of each semester, generally on the second Friday of the semester. The date will be prominently posted on the website. We ask that students register for the exam in advance by sending an email with your name, the name of your program and/or school, and the name and email of your departmental contact to whom we should send the results. Students have two hours to complete the translation. Paper dictionaries are allowed but not provided.
