Humberto Ballesteros was born in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1979. Besides a Ph.D. in Italian (Columbia, 2015), he holds a B.A. in Literature (Los Andes, 2001), an M.A. in Latin American Literature (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, 2005) and an M.A. in Humanities and Social Thought (NYU, 2007). His doctoral dissertation explores the concepts of free will and the ontological understanding of the human in Dante's Commedia. Humberto also writes fiction in his native Spanish, and has published a book of short stories (Escritor en el aire; Pluma de Mompox, 2012) and an award-winning novel (Razones para destruir una ciudad; Alfaguara, 2013). Current projects include the commentary for a new Spanish edition of the Commedia, an article on Dante’s notion of the absolute will and a second novel.
